About the company

The American Chestnut Foundation (TACF) is a non-profit organization dedicated to developing a disease-resistant American chestnut tree and restoring it to the native range in the eastern United States. Through federal grants, TACF provides scientific research, conservation, and education services related to protecting and reestablishing American chestnut tree populations.

Past federal grants have enabled TACF to further the American Chestnut Restoration project, increasing production of blight-resistant chestnut varieties to support reforestation efforts. This includes a $200,000 Project Grant from the USDA Forest Service (CFDA 10.680) funding TACF's chestnut protection and sustainable forest management work from February 2023 through September 2025. TACF also received a $300,000 cooperative agreement from the Department of Interior's National Park Service (CFDA 15.944) to partner with Cuyahoga Valley National Park through September 2026. This will support planting blight-resistant chestnuts within the park to promote climate resiliency. Additionally, TACF subcontracted with The Research Foundation for The State University of New York to collect data and maintain chestnut test plots under a USDA Forest Service grant supporting genetic engineering and monitoring of chestnut populations.
