About this program
The National Institute of Nursing Research (NINR), part of the National Institutes of Health under the Department of Health and Human Services, funds nursing research through career development and research education programs via Assistance Listing 93.NR6, with the most recent grant award activity occurring within the past several years based on the portfolio data available.
The program supports research career programs and research education programs using activity codes K01, K23, K24, K99, and R25. These mechanisms fund nurse researchers investigating patient and community health outcomes across multiple clinical settings and the lifespan, applying nursing's holistic perspective to evidence generation. Recent awards funded by NINR include research addressing clinical intervention effectiveness, workforce development in specialized nursing domains, and early-career investigator support for nurse scientists transitioning to independent research programs.
The portfolio is dominated by Project Grants with smaller shares of Cooperative Agreements and other assistance types. All applications undergo dual scientific review by non-NIH scientists followed by evaluation by an appropriate scientific peer review panel and the NINR national advisory council. Evaluation criteria include significance of the proposed research, approach, innovation, investigator qualifications, institutional environment, and alignment with NIH and Administration priorities.
Eligible applicants include any corporation, nonprofit or for-profit institution, university, college, medical, dental, and nursing school, school of public health, laboratory, hospital, state and local health department, and individuals with the skills and resources to carry out proposed research as program director or principal investigator. Grantees must retain financial and programmatic records for three years from the date of the last expenditure report submission. All grants and cooperative agreements are subject to inspection and audit by the Department of Health and Human Services and other federal officials.
No specific open solicitations or recently posted funding opportunities were identified in the current source materials.
