About this program
The National Institutes of Health, through the National Institute on Drug Abuse (NIDA), funds training and institutional research programs supporting basic, clinical, translational, and implementation research in substance use, drug addiction, and related health outcomes including HIV/AIDS (CFDA 93.DA6). The program develops approaches for prevention, diagnosis, and treatment of drug use, misuse, addiction, and drug overdose. No recent grant awards or open grant opportunities are present in the source material.
The program evaluates projects on scientific and technical merit, the merits of the training program, potential contribution to the national drug use problem, and relevance to NIDA priorities. Applicant eligibility and renewal terms are determined at the individual Funding Opportunity Announcement level. Awards flow directly from NIDA to recipient institutions following National Advisory Council on Drug Abuse concurrence and Scientific Review Group recommendation.
Review timelines run 240 to 270 days from application submission for standard applications, or up to 180 days for AIDS-related applications. Recipients must comply with audit requirements under 2 CFR Part 200, Subpart F, and the NIH Grants Policy Statement, with records retained for at least three years—or longer if audit findings remain unresolved.
To assess current opportunity status and specific award economics, check the NIDA funding opportunities portal or the NIH grants.nih.gov site for active NOFOs under CFDA 93.DA6. Eligibility, award ranges, and programmatic priorities are defined within each announcement and should be confirmed before development.
