About this program
The National Cancer Institute, part of the National Institutes of Health under the Department of Health and Human Services, funds cancer research spanning prevention, screening, detection, treatment, diagnosis, and mechanistic understanding of cancer through Assistance Listing 93.CA5, with peer-review appeal procedures available through standard NIH processes. The program supports research resources and infrastructure including clinical trials, data repositories, knowledge bases, and analytical capabilities; career development across the career trajectory; and conferences and scientific meetings. NCI also uses this budget category to support research activities through Other Transactions Authorities.
The source provided does not include a grant award portfolio block, recent grant awards, or open grant opportunities. Without that data, the current award cadence, recent funding volumes, assistance-type distribution, and concentration of funding among NIH components cannot be characterized. The source does not specify typical award magnitudes, application due dates, or whether grant opportunities are currently open.
Evaluation criteria center on scientific merit and general significance of the proposed study; technical adequacy of experimental design and approach; competency of the proposed investigator or group; adequacy of available and proposed facilities and resources; necessity of budget components in relation to the proposed project; and relevance to announced program objectives. Funding decisions incorporate scientific and technical merit as determined by peer review, availability of funds, and relevance to program priorities. All competitive applications are reviewed by scientific authorities and the National Cancer Advisory Board.
Recipients must retain expenditures and other financial records for three years from the date the final financial status report for the report period is submitted. Grants and cooperative agreements are subject to inspection and audits by DHHS and other federal officials under 2 CFR Subpart F.
