About this program

The National Cancer Institute, a division of the National Institutes of Health within the Department of Health and Human Services, funds biomedical training opportunities for individuals pursuing careers in cancer research under CFDA 93.CA4, with the most recent activity not specified in the available source material.

The program supports individual training and career development in cancer research through biomedical training opportunities. Applicants compete for available funds based on scientific and technical merit, program relevance, and program balance consistent with NCI and NIH priorities. Review encompasses scientific merit and significance of proposed study objectives, technical adequacy of experimental design, investigator competency, adequacy of facilities and resources, budget necessity relative to project scope, and relevance to announced program objectives. All applications undergo scientific peer review and must be reviewed by the National Cancer Advisory Board before funding decisions.

The source material does not provide recent grant award data, portfolio composition by assistance type, funding concentration among agencies, award economics, representative recent awards, or open grant opportunities. The review process typically requires 120 to 180 days from submission to funding determination. Applications may be appealed on substantive or procedural grounds through NIH peer review appeal procedures.

Recipients must retain expenditure and financial records for three years from submission of the final financial status report. Grants and cooperative agreements are subject to inspection and audits by DHHS and other federal officials, with audit requirements governed by 2 CFR Subpart F.

To evaluate current pursuit of this program, you will need to access the NIH grants portal or contact the National Cancer Institute directly for information on recent award activity, current open solicitations, typical award magnitudes, and current funding availability.
