About this program

The National Institute of Mental Health (NIMH) funds large-scale, interdisciplinary mental health research centers and program projects through Project Grants and Cooperative Agreements under Assistance Listing 93.24C, with eligible applicant categories and renewal terms determined at the individual funding opportunity level.

NIMH accepts investigator-initiated applications for research centers and program projects that consist of multiple projects organized around a common focus, typically involving several research teams and core facilities. Awards support basic and clinical research aimed at advancing prevention, recovery, and treatment of mental illnesses. The program evaluates applications on scientific and technical merit, synergy between individual projects and shared cores, availability of funds, and relevance to program priorities; all competitive applications are reviewed by the National Advisory Mental Health Council.

The source does not report recent grant award activity, award frequency trends, typical award magnitudes, or currently open funding opportunities. Eligible applicant organizations and specific assistance-type distributions are determined at the NOFO level rather than program-wide. Recipients are subject to NIH audit requirements under 2 CFR Part 200 Subpart F, and must retain records for at least three years or longer if audit findings remain unresolved.

To determine current program activity, open solicitations, award economics, and eligibility constraints, consult the most recent NOFO posted on grants.nih.gov or NIH's Funding Opportunities page. The program's peer review appeal process is documented in NIH Notice NOT-OD-11-064.
