About this program

The Department of Health and Human Services Health Resources and Services Administration funded continuing education and training programs for health professionals serving underserved communities under CFDA 93.189, with the most recent grant awards disbursed on July 1, 2005—over twenty years ago.

This program is no longer active. The portfolio contains 51 total awards spanning from 1996 to 2005, with grant activity concentrated in 2001–2003 (9 to 16 awards per year) before dropping sharply to 1 award in 2004 and 10 awards in 2005, the program's final year. No grant opportunities have been posted or awards issued in the past twenty-one years.

Funded activities centered on delivering continuing education, distance learning, collaborative conferences, and telelearning to primary care providers in underserved, rural, and border areas. The program aimed to reduce professional isolation through timely dissemination of research findings, improve retention and representation of minority faculty, and enhance practice environments in underserved settings.

The portfolio is predominantly Project Grants (46 awards, 90 percent), with a smaller share of Block Grants (5 awards, 10 percent). The Department of Health and Human Services Health Resources and Services Administration was the sole funding agency, obligating $20.1 million in combined federal dollars across all 51 awards. Individual awards ranged from $77 thousand to $1.2 million, with typical awards falling between $250 thousand and $600 thousand. Representative awards from the 2005 funding cycle included Project Grant 000D39HP00029A0 for $556 thousand and Project Grant 000D39HP02165B0 for $456 thousand.

Do not pursue this program. It has been inactive for more than two decades with no recent solicitation activity or funding pipeline.
