Child Care Provider Loan Forgiveness Demonstration

The Department of Education operates the Child Care Provider Loan Forgiveness Demonstration program (CFDA 84.355), which last awarded grants on September 1, 2003—over two decades ago. The program is inactive; no grant opportunities are currently posted, and no awards have been disbursed since 2003.

The program funded loan forgiveness initiatives for child care providers. Award history shows five grants in 2001 and sixteen in 2003, with all awards structured as Project Grants. The most recent awards, closed out by September 1, 2007, included Project Grant N355A040003 ($71,178), N355A040001 ($23,569), and N355A040018 ($22,189). Individual grant magnitudes in the 2003 cohort ranged from $499 to approximately $71 thousand.

The Department of Education provided all 21 awards in the program's history. Cumulative federal dollars obligated across the portfolio total negative $94,870, reflecting net return or reduction in obligated funds—likely a consequence of closeouts, deobligations, and refunds across the 2001–2003 funding cycle.

Do not pursue this program. The absence of awards or opportunities for over two decades, combined with the negative cumulative federal obligation, indicates the demonstration has been discontinued.
