About this program
The Department of Education Office of Elementary and Secondary Education funds professional development programs under CFDA 84.349 (Early Childhood Educator Professional Development), with the most recent grant award issued on September 1, 2007 — more than nineteen years ago.
This program has not issued new awards since 2007 and is not actively soliciting applications. The funding history spans 2001 to 2007, with award volume declining sharply in the final years (seven awards in 2003, eight in 2004, five in 2005, three in 2006, and four in 2007). All 44 awards on record were Project Grants. The program funded professional development and training activities for early childhood educators and caregivers working in high-poverty communities with predominantly low-income student populations, with emphasis on early childhood pedagogy and language and literacy skill development to prevent reading difficulties upon school entry.
Combined federal dollars obligated totaled $86 million across the 44 awards. Recipients also contributed $177.7 million in non-federal matching funds, bringing total obligation to $263.7 million. Award magnitudes ranged from approximately $881 thousand to $37.2 million, with recent awards clustering in the $3 million to $37 million range. Representative funded projects included S349A070018 ($37.2 million, completion date December 2010), S349A070030 ($34.7 million, August 2011), and S349A070015 ($31.4 million, May 2011).
No current grant opportunities are open under this program listing. Pursuit of this program is not recommended given the nineteen-year funding hiatus and absence of posted solicitations.
