About this program

The Department of Energy's National Nuclear Security Administration funds law enforcement services for Nye County Sheriff's Office through cooperative agreements under CFDA 81.260, with the most recent award structured as a multi-year performance period incrementally funded based on appropriations availability.

This program provides supplementary financial support to strengthen public safety and security in the vicinity of the Nevada National Security Site (NNSS), located approximately 65 miles northwest of Las Vegas in southeastern Nye County, Nevada. Allowable costs cover salaries, benefits, and travel for law enforcement personnel performing civil and criminal enforcement, controlling and containing public protests and demonstrations, conducting traffic enforcement operations, supporting the NNSS contractor protective force in responding to trespassers and protesters (including lawful detention, citation, arrest, and transportation), investigating suspected civil and criminal acts within NNSS boundaries, and assisting emergency response personnel. All costs must be allowable, reasonable, allocable, necessary, and consistent with 2 CFR part 200.

The program operates as a cooperative agreement with the Nye County Sheriff's Office and is administered by the Department of Energy as the sole funding agency. Financial assistance is provided through reimbursement via Automated Clearing House (ACH) Vendor Inquiry Payment Electronic Reporting (VIPERS). Award periods are structured as multi-year agreements; the current program guidance references both three-year periods of performance with follow-on evaluation at the end of the second performance period and two-year periods incrementally funded based on appropriations. Federal award records are retained for three years from final financial report submission per 2 CFR 200.334.

The source provides no recent grant award data, no award amounts, no award portfolio statistics, and no currently open grant opportunities. The program description appears to reflect a standing cooperative agreement with a single identified recipient rather than a competitive grant program with multiple annual awards. Organizations interested in this funding should contact the Department of Energy's National Nuclear Security Administration directly to determine current funding status, award cycles, and eligibility requirements.
