About this program

The Environmental Protection Agency funds Region 3 Environmental Priority Projects (CFDA 66.113) to support surveys, studies, investigations, training, demonstrations, and special purpose assistance on air quality, drinking water, water quality, hazardous waste, toxic substances, and pesticides within Delaware, Maryland, Pennsylvania, Virginia, West Virginia, and the District of Columbia. The most recent grant award dates to May 11, 2011 — over fifteen years ago.

Award activity has ceased. The portfolio documents five Project Grants totaling $232 thousand in federal dollars obligated between 2009 and 2011, with three awards in the final year. No grant opportunities have been posted since the Student Environmental Development Program cooperative agreement solicitation closed on March 15, 2011.

Recent awards funded environmental education and workforce development initiatives. The Earth Force Project and Environmental Justice Project, both awarded May 11, 2011, guided students through identifying and solving environmental problems; these received $70,000 and $82,500 respectively. The Environmentors Project, also awarded May 11, 2011, received $104,594 for similar student-centered environmental problem-solving. An earlier award in September 2010 supported training for Maryland Department of the Environment inspectors and field staff on litigation support ($15,000), and a July 2009 award assisted the Maryland Hospitals for a Healthy Environment Initiative at the University of Maryland School of Nursing ($6,500).

The EPA held exclusive funding authority across all awards. All funding took the form of Project Grants; combined federal and non-federal obligations totaled $279 thousand, indicating modest cost-share from recipients.

No current grant opportunities are open under this program.
