About this program
The Department of Veterans Affairs funds outpatient diagnostic care services for enrolled veterans under CFDA 64.050, with no recent grant opportunities or awards identified in the available source material.
This program does not operate as a traditional grant-making vehicle. Rather, it is an accounting and resource allocation framework within the Veterans Health Administration (VHA) that tracks and distributes funding for diagnostic care services delivered directly to eligible veterans. The VHA Office of Policy and Planning identifies beneficiary populations, the Decision Support System calculates service costs at the patient level, and the VHA Allocation Resource Center consolidates cost and beneficiary data to apportion resources by veteran residence.
Eligible services encompass outpatient diagnostic care across pathology, radiology, nuclear medicine, and other diagnostic clinics. Eligibility follows a statutory priority system under Title 38 USC 1705, with veterans rated 50 percent or greater for service-connected disability at the top tier, followed by those rated 30–40 percent, former prisoners of war, Medal of Honor recipients, Purple Heart recipients, catastrophically disabled veterans, those unable to defray necessary care expenses, and all other eligible veterans in descending priority order. Services are provided during the fiscal year to enrolled veterans who meet these criteria.
The source provided contains no portfolio data on award counts, funding dollars, assistance type distribution, or recent grant awards. It likewise contains no information on open or recently posted grant opportunities. The program structure and statutory language suggest this operates as a direct-service allocation mechanism within the VA health system rather than as a competitive or formulaic grant program through which external organizations would typically apply for funding. Organizations seeking federal funding for veteran health services or diagnostic care initiatives should evaluate whether their activities align with direct VA service delivery models or whether alternative VA grant programs or other federal funding streams would be more appropriate.
