About this program

The Department of Veterans Affairs funds acute inpatient medical services for enrolled veterans through the VHA Inpatient Medicine program (CFDA 64.040), which accounts for and allocates Veterans Health Care spending based on patient residence and service utilization.

The program funds hospital care and medical services delivered through the Veterans Health Administration's inpatient system, including Medical ICU, Cardiac ICU, medical specialties, rehabilitation medicine, spinal cord injury care, and blind rehabilitation. Eligibility follows a statutory priority enrollment system that prioritizes veterans with service-connected disabilities rated 50 percent or greater, followed by those with ratings of 30 or 40 percent, former prisoners of war, Purple Heart recipients, Medal of Honor recipients, catastrophically disabled veterans, veterans unable to defray necessary care costs, and all other eligible veterans. The VHA Office of Policy and Planning identifies beneficiaries; the Decision Support System's Managerial Cost Accounting System tracks costs of acute inpatient services to specific patients; and the VHA Allocation Resource Center merges patient-level costs with beneficiary data to apportion spending.

The source provided does not include a grant award portfolio, recent grant awards, or open grant opportunities. This appears to reflect that VHA Inpatient Medicine functions as an internal Veterans Health Administration budget and accounting structure rather than a competitive grant program with solicitations, applications, and external recipients. The program description focuses on enrollment management, cost allocation, and service reporting rather than grant administration. Business development professionals should treat this listing as a Veterans Affairs operational funding line serving enrolled veteran beneficiaries directly, not as a discretionary grant opportunity for external applicant organizations.
