About this program
The Department of the Treasury Community Development Financial Institutions Fund administers the Community Development Financial Institutions Bond Guarantee Program (CFDA 21.014), which guarantees long-term debt issued by certified Community Development Financial Institutions to finance lending and investment in low-income communities and underserved rural areas.
The program operates by making debt available to eligible CDFIs through the Federal Financing Bank, with guaranteed bonds carrying terms up to 29.5 years. Eligible CDFIs use bond proceeds for community and economic development purposes including owner-occupied home mortgages, charter school financing, and municipal and community entity lending. The CDFI Fund reviews applications through a merit-based process documented in program regulations and notices of guidance, and may conduct interviews, site visits, or audits of qualified issuers, eligible CDFIs, program administrators, servicers, and trustees at least annually. Award recipients must maintain records demonstrating compliance with all performance measures in accordance with OMB guidance and program terms.
The program is subject to annual Congressional authorization and appropriation. The source provided does not specify recent grant award activity, award cadence, funding volumes, or currently open application opportunities. No recent grant awards or opportunities are documented in the materials supplied. Prospective applicants should verify current program status and application timelines directly with the CDFI Fund, as the program's annual appropriation cycle and authorization requirements mean funding availability may vary year to year.
