About this program
The Federal Railroad Administration at the Department of Transportation funds grants and cooperative agreements under CFDA 20.330 to improve railroad safety and reduce railroad-related casualties and accidents, with the program established in August 2025 as a restructured continuation of the prior CFDA 20.301. FRA maintains eight regional offices across the country—Boston, Wilmington, Atlanta, Chicago, Fort Worth, Kansas City, Sacramento, and Vancouver—that administer the program.
The source provides no recent grant awards, grant opportunities, or portfolio data. Consequently, award frequency, funding concentration, typical award magnitudes, and current solicitation status cannot be determined from the material provided. FRA notes that financial obligations for FY24 and FY25 are recorded under the predecessor listing (CFDA 20.301), suggesting that post-August 2025 activity under the new 20.330 designation has not yet generated published awards or is not yet reflected in public databases.
Grant opportunities are posted on Grants.gov; applicants must submit SF424 (Application for Federal Assistance), SF424A or SF424C (budget forms depending on project type), SF424B or SF424D (assurances), and FRA-specific certifications along with project narratives, statements of work, and budgets. Preapplication coordination with state single points of contact is required where states have selected the program for intergovernmental review under Executive Order 12372. Funding is obligated through cooperative agreements or grants and disbursed as reimbursement upon milestone achievement; applicants must retain all supporting data and records for three years following closeout. The general public is eligible to apply.
To assess whether to pursue this program, check Grants.gov for current Notice of Funding Opportunities and contact the relevant regional administrator for your state or project location.
