About this program

The Department of Justice Office on Violence Against Women funded 91 Project Grants totaling $43 million through the Recovery Act Transitional Housing program (CFDA 16.805), with the most recent award disbursed on August 1, 2009—17 years ago.

This program is inactive. No grant opportunities are currently posted, and no awards have been disbursed since August 2009. The entire portfolio consists of a single one-time funding cohort in fiscal year 2009, representing a Recovery Act stimulus initiative rather than an ongoing annual program.

The program funded transitional housing facilities and supportive services for minors, adults, and dependents fleeing domestic violence, dating violence, sexual assault, or stalking. Representative awards include the Michigan Transitional Housing Project ($2 million), which served the broadest geographic scope; transitional housing programs operated by YWCA affiliates, SafePlace, and community domestic violence organizations (typically $450 thousand to $500 thousand per award); and specialized programs such as the Polaris Project Transitional Housing Program for Victims of Human Trafficking and Indigenous Women's Life Net, serving distinct victim populations. Awards carried 2-year or 3-year project periods ending between June and July 2011–2012.

All 91 awards were structured as Project Grants. The Department of Justice Office on Violence Against Women was the sole funding agency. Award sizes clustered tightly around $450 thousand to $500 thousand, with outliers including the $2 million Michigan award and smaller awards ranging from $164 thousand to $711 thousand. The program supported both organizational infrastructure—staffing, facility operations, minor renovations—and direct services including case management, emergency assistance, job training, and transitional housing placement.

No recent grant opportunities or renewal solicitations are documented. This assistance listing appears dormant and should not be pursued for current funding.
