About this program
The Federal Bureau of Investigation, under the Department of Justice, operates the Law Enforcement Assistance Uniform Crime Reports program (CFDA 16.305) to collect, analyze, and publish crime statistics submitted on a voluntary basis by law enforcement agencies nationwide, making this data available to agency administrators, judges, legislators, media, researchers, and the general public.
The program's scope centers on compiling and disseminating crime trend data, including offenses known to police, demographic information on arrested persons (age, sex, race), police disposition of juveniles, police employment figures, and supplementary annual statistics on hate crimes and law enforcement officers killed and assaulted. The FBI publishes findings annually in "Crime In The United States—Uniform Crime Reports," with preliminary releases issued annually and semiannually.
This program does not issue competitive grants to applicants. Instead, it operates as a data collection and publication service in which all participating state and local law enforcement agencies receive copies of annual publications and preliminary reports automatically. Limited copies of preliminary reports and specialized statistics are available to any interested individual upon request to the Communications Unit, Criminal Justice Information Services Division at FBI headquarters in Clarksburg, West Virginia. The annual publication is available for purchase through the U.S. Government Printing Office.
The source does not report recent grant awards, assistance-type distributions, funding concentrations, or award economics because the program does not function as a competitive grant program. No grant opportunities are currently open. Organizations seeking to contribute data to the Uniform Crime Reports or to obtain crime statistics should contact the Communications Unit at the FBI's Criminal Justice Information Services Division. This program is not a funding vehicle for external applicants and should not be pursued as a source of grant revenue.
