The Department of Justice Office of Justice Programs is funding comprehensive violence and crime reduction strategies under the Model Cities Initiative (Assistance Listing 16.077), with the most recent grant activity occurring within the past several years.

The program provides targeted funding to eligible entities implementing comprehensive strategies to reduce crime, violence, and disorder. Funded activities include hiring and retaining law enforcement personnel; purchasing or leasing equipment, tools, and technology; training personnel; leasing, renting, or renovating facilities; providing mental health and substance use treatment services; supporting recidivism reduction activities; providing victims services; and investing in youth crime prevention and intervention services as part of an integrated approach to public safety.

The source does not identify recent grant awards, award magnitudes, or the assistance-type distribution within the program's portfolio, making it impossible to characterize typical award economics or the operational cadence of grant disbursements. The source also does not identify any grant opportunities currently open or recently posted, so pursuing this program requires checking the Office of Justice Programs funding page or JustGrants directly for active solicitations.

Award decisions are made by the Assistant Attorney General, with award notifications issued through JustGrants. Successful applicants have forty-five days to accept or decline their award after notification. Recipients must retain all records related to the award for three years from the date of submission of the final expenditure report; audit requirements are specified in 2 CFR 200 Subpart F and award conditions.
