About this program

The National Park Service (NPS) provides Cooperative Agreements under the Supporting the Lower Mississippi Delta Initiative (CFDA 15.014) to qualified non-profit organizations that co-administer natural resource protection, historic preservation, and educational enhancement projects across the Lower Mississippi Delta region, with the most recent award disbursed on August 24, 2021.

Program activity has been minimal. The portfolio contains only one grant award in the tracked period, obligating $909 thousand in federal dollars (with $1.1 million in combined federal and non-federal funding) as of August 24, 2021—over five years ago. The single awarded Cooperative Agreement to an unnamed recipient ran through April 30, 2026, and focused on improving program outreach and visibility through an LMDI website and targeted outreach to small local cultural institutions within the Delta region. No grant awards or grant opportunities have been posted since that 2021 disbursement. The portfolio reports no recent funding activity, and no current grant opportunities are identified in the source.

Eligible applicants are state, local, tribal, and non-profit organizations. The program funds archeology, history, natural resources, cultural resources, heritage, and tourism projects aligned with the Delta Initiatives Report, which was adopted in 1994 under Public Law 103-433. Funding is awarded through competitive, merit-based review, with specific evaluation criteria and project award amounts determined at the time each Notice of Funding Opportunity is posted to grants.gov. Application timelines typically range from 30 to 120 days. The National Park Service National Office is the sole funder represented in the portfolio. Award continuation is subject to Congressional appropriations and discretionary renewal; renewals or extensions will be specified in future funding opportunity announcements when applicable.

Given the absence of any awards or opportunities since 2021 and no indication of active solicitation, this program appears inactive or dormant pending new Congressional funding authorization.
