About this program
The National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) within the Department of Commerce funds applied materials science and engineering research through CFDA 11.63B, with recent test NOFOs posted in July 2026 marked as non-applicable to actual applicants.
The program supports research in materials science and engineering measurements, reference standards, measurement technology, instrumentation, and related models and data required for the design, production, and assessment of chemical and material products. Funding also covers collaborative research, education, outreach programs, conferences, workshops, and technical research meetings aligned with NIST's Material Measurement Laboratory priorities and the measurement science needs of federal agency partners.
The source provides no portfolio data on recent grant awards, award volume trends, assistance-type distribution, typical award magnitudes, or funding concentration among agencies. No operationally open grant opportunities are identified in the source; the three NOFOs posted in July 2026 are explicitly marked as test solicitations with instructions not to apply. Without access to historical award data or active solicitation windows, the current pursuit viability of this program cannot be assessed from the available source material. Eligibility requirements and specific selection criteria are contingent upon each individual NOFO posted at grants.gov. Applicants should monitor grants.gov directly for authentic solicitations under this Assistance Listing.
