About this program
The National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) Information Technology Laboratory Grant Program (CFDA 11.059) provides financial assistance for research in applied and computational mathematics, computer science, statistics, systems engineering, and metrology aligned with ITL's mission to cultivate trust in information technology and measurement standards, with applications accepted on a rolling basis.
ITL funds research conducted by recipients or in collaboration with NIST, as well as financial support for attendance at or sponsorship of conferences, workshops, and technical meetings relevant to the program's scope. The program operates on a continuing rolling-submission model; all applications are considered as received rather than in batches, with award decisions based on published selection criteria that vary by competition and are detailed in individual Notices of Funding Opportunity posted at Grants.gov. Renewals are competed, while continuations of multi-year awards proceed without re-competition. Future or continued funding depends on satisfactory recipient performance and NIST budget availability.
Eligible applicants include institutions of higher education, non-profit organizations, for-profit organizations, state and local governments, Indian tribes, hospitals, foreign public entities, and foreign governments. NIST actively encourages applications from minority-serving institutions and community colleges. Individuals and unincorporated sole proprietors are ineligible. ITL does not accept pre-applications or white papers under this program.
All recipients must comply with 2 CFR 200 audit requirements and retain financial and programmatic records per 2 CFR 200.333. NIST, the Department of Commerce Office of Inspector General, or another authorized federal agency may audit awards at any time.
The source does not provide recent grant award data, portfolio composition by assistance type, funding concentration figures, or active opportunity details sufficient to assess current demand or award magnitude. Prospective applicants should consult Grants.gov for current solicitations and specific selection criteria.
