About this program

The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) funds the protection, species conservation, and restoration of salmon and steelhead through the Pacific Coast Salmon Recovery Fund (CFDA 11.045), with the most recent grant opportunity closing June 29, 2026.

NOAA's National Marine Fisheries Service administers the program as a cooperative effort with eligible States (Washington, Oregon, Idaho, Nevada, California, and Alaska) and federally recognized tribes of the Columbia River and Pacific Coast to fund projects addressing threatened or endangered salmon and steelhead populations, at-risk populations identified by States, populations necessary for exercise of tribal treaty fishing rights or native subsistence fishing, and habitat conservation. The current solicitation (NOAA-NMFS-WCRO-2026-33121) draws on both Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act funds and annual appropriations under the Commerce, Justice, Science; Energy and Water Development; and Interior and Environment Appropriations Act, 2026.

Eligible applicants are States and federally recognized tribes meeting the Federally Recognized Indian Tribe List Act criteria. Priority consideration goes to State and tribal programs that directly address salmon recovery. Preapplication coordination is required. Applications are evaluated by NMFS Regional Offices and processed by the NOAA Grants Management Division, typically within 180 calendar days from receipt of a complete and acceptable application, though timelines may exceed that window. Continuation grants for approved multi-year projects are available on an annual basis subject to satisfactory performance and fiscal year funding availability. Recipients must retain grant records for three years from final financial report submission or until any litigation, claim, or audit is resolved, whichever is latest.

No recent grant awards or prior-year portfolio data were provided in the source material. The program's assistance-type mix, funding concentration among NMFS regional offices, typical award magnitudes, and historical funding volume cannot be determined from available information.
