About this program

The Farm Service Agency (FSA), a division of the Department of Agriculture, awarded direct financial assistance to eligible livestock producers for supplemental feed costs incurred due to drought or wildfire forage losses during calendar year 2022 under the Emergency Livestock Relief Program 2022 (CFDA 10.980); the application period has ended and no grant opportunities are currently open.

ELRP 2022 is a closed program with no active solicitation. FSA announced a final deadline for submission of supporting documentation to county FSA offices, with a 60-day submission window from that deadline; the application period itself has concluded. All eligible applicants were required to have had data on file with FSA through prior participation in the 2022 Livestock Forage Disaster Program, limiting the pool to producers already engaged with FSA disaster-assistance tracking.

The program funded direct payments to compensate for increased supplemental feed expenses resulting from forage losses—a narrowly scoped, event-driven assistance mechanism rather than an ongoing grant program. Eligible applicants included U.S. citizens, resident aliens, partnerships, corporations, limited liability companies, tribal organizations, and other state-organized entities owned solely by U.S. citizens or resident aliens. Unlike many USDA farm programs, ELRP 2022 applicants faced no average adjusted gross income cap.

FSA administered awards directly to recipients; the source does not report funding concentration by sub-agency, typical award magnitudes, portfolio size, or total federal dollars obligated. The program's assistance-type structure—direct payments to individuals and entities meeting eligibility criteria—is characteristic of a direct-assistance program rather than a competitive project or cooperative-agreement solicitation.

This program is not pursuing right now. ELRP 2022 was a time-limited, event-responsive relief effort tied to specific 2022 drought and wildfire losses and has completed its application cycle. Organizations seeking USDA agricultural disaster assistance should monitor FSA announcements for future emergency relief programs tied to qualifying natural disasters in subsequent calendar years.
