About this program
The Department of Agriculture Forest Service through the Law Enforcement Agreements program (CFDA 10.704) funds cooperative work between the Forest Service and State and local law enforcement agencies to enhance enforcement and supervision of laws and ordinances on National Forest System lands, with no stated application deadline.
This program establishes cooperative agreements rather than traditional grants. Eligible cooperators are State governments and local political subdivisions, most commonly county governments. Agreements run for periods of up to five years and fund law enforcement activities only, including patrol of campgrounds, developed sites, and dispersed areas on National Forest Service land for crime prevention, emergency response, criminal investigation, and apprehension; dispatcher services for identification checks, wants and warrants queries, and officer welfare checks; enforcement of special situations including fire emergencies and drug enforcement; and purchase of equipment of mutual benefit to both the Forest Service and the cooperating agency, provided equipment reimbursement does not constitute a major portion of the agreement.
The source does not report recent grant awards, award frequency, or combined federal dollars obligated, and does not identify specific funding agencies within the Forest Service or indicate whether grant opportunities have been posted recently. The source states no value constraints or award magnitudes. Standard federal grant tracking requirements under 2 CFR part 200 do not apply to agreements issued under this authority; the Forest Service and Comptroller General retain the right to examine all records related to each agreement.
Prospective applicants should contact the Forest Service directly to determine current funding availability, typical award levels, and negotiation procedures for specific National Forests or regions, as the source provides no information on active solicitations or recent award activity.
