About this program

The Department of Agriculture Food and Nutrition Service administers the Child Nutrition Direct Certification Performance Awards program (CFDA 10.589), with the most recent grant awards disbursed on September 1, 2012. This program is inactive and should not be pursued.

The program was designed to reward States for exemplary performance in directly certifying eligible children in households receiving Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) benefits for free school meals. Awards were distributed across two categories—Outstanding Performance and Substantial Improvement—with $2 million available annually in each category, for a total of $4 million per year. The program was authorized to run for three fiscal years: FY 2012, FY 2013, and FY 2014, with up to 15 States eligible for awards each year.

All 14 recorded grant awards in the portfolio were issued on September 1, 2012, as Formula Grants to individual States, obligating $4 million combined federal dollars. Individual state awards ranged from approximately $195,000 to $520,000, with awards distributed to Idaho, Wyoming, Georgia, Maryland, Nebraska, West Virginia, Alaska, Ohio, Utah, Michigan, Kentucky, New Jersey, North Dakota, and Delaware. No grant awards have been issued since September 2012—a gap of 14 years—indicating the program concluded after its authorized three-year cycle. The Department of Agriculture Food and Nutrition Service was the sole funding agency across all awards. The source contains no open or recently posted grant opportunities under this Assistance Listing.
