About this program
The USDA Risk Management Agency (RMA) administers the Transitional and Organic Grower Assistance Program (CFDA 10.462), which provides premium subsidies to agricultural producers with crop insurance coverage on transitional or certified organic crops for the 2023 reinsurance year only.
The program funds premium assistance rather than direct grants or project funding. Eligible producers receive automatic discounts applied directly to their crop insurance premium bills with no separate application required: 10 percentage points of premium subsidy for crops in transition to certified organic, $5 per insured acre for organic grain and feed crops, and 10 percentage points of subsidy for Whole Farm Revenue Protection (WFRP) policies covering any transitional or certified organic practice crops. Producers holding additional individual crop insurance policies receive applicable premium assistance on those policies as well.
The assistance is delivered as a crop insurance billing deduction rather than a grant disbursement. RMA and FSA conduct data mining and spot-check reviews to verify reported planted acreage of organic crops. The benefit applies automatically upon purchase of eligible crop insurance and planting of an eligible crop; no producer application or enrollment process exists.
Funding is limited to the 2023 crop year only. The source contains no recent grant awards, open grant opportunities, award portfolio data, or forward funding intent beyond 2023. This program operates as an automatic premium assistance mechanism tied to the federal crop insurance system rather than as a discretionary grants program with periodic competitions or award cycles. Organizations providing crop insurance advisory services, organic certification support, or agricultural business development assistance to producers may reference this program when discussing crop insurance options with transitional and organic growers, but the program does not fund external organizations, researchers, or third-party service providers. Eligibility is restricted to individual producers who purchase qualifying crop insurance and plant eligible crops.
