About this program
The Department of Agriculture National Institute of Food and Agriculture (NIFA) funds the development, translation, and dissemination of scientifically based information, implementation support, and programs advancing the health and well-being of military families under Assistance Listing 10.288, with grant opportunities typically published annually.
The program supports three core activities: maintaining a repository of evidence-vetted programs for military families; providing implementation and technical support for program deployment, including the 5210 Healthy Military Kids messaging campaign; and further development of the THRIVE Universal Parenting Program. Applications are evaluated through peer and merit review by qualified scientists and subject-matter experts, with evaluation criteria detailed in the annual Notice of Funding Opportunity.
The source provides no recent grant awards data, portfolio concentration figures, award magnitude ranges, or specific examples of funded projects. Without access to the grant award portfolio block, the assistance-type mix, funding volume, typical award sizes, and recent award activity cannot be characterized. Application deadlines are not fixed; interested applicants must contact the National Program Leader to obtain specific deadline dates for each funding cycle.
Eligible applicants include state agricultural experiment stations, state cooperative extension services, colleges and universities, research or educational institutions and organizations, federal and private agencies and organizations, and individuals. Award recipients may subcontract to ineligible organizations when necessary for project conduct. Applicants must satisfy all eligibility criteria by the application deadline; failure to do so may result in exclusion from review or ineligibility for award despite favorable review.
Grant-related records must be retained for at least three years following the grant period and longer if litigation or unresolved audit findings are pending. Preapplication coordination is required, and an environmental impact statement is required for projects under this listing.
