About this opportunity

The City of Charlotte is soliciting bids for tree obstruction remediation services at Charlotte Douglas International Airport (CLT) to remove, top, and trim trees and vegetation encroaching on FAA Part 77 airspace surfaces, with proposals due October 1, 2026 and Notice to Proceed expected by February 8, 2027.

The project spans approximately 80 acres across CLT-owned real property, North Carolina Department of Transportation rights-of-way (encroachment agreement pending), Norfolk Southern Corporation rights-of-way (entry agreement pending), and private real property where the City has secured rights-of-entry. Remediation will be completed in prioritized phases based on criticality for airport operations and safety, with specific focus on the One Engine Inoperative (OEI) surface and Runway Protection Zones (RPZ). The contractor must maintain at least 20 feet clearance below the FAA Part 77 surface to ensure continued compliance with airspace protection standards and enhance aircraft operational safety.

Scope includes tree removal, stump removal, tree topping, and vegetation management within key operational areas. The work requires full coordination with multiple property owners and jurisdictions across Mecklenburg County and Cleveland Town, and coordination with airport operations to minimize disruption to ongoing aviation activities. Contractor compliance with all federal aviation regulations and secured property access agreements is mandatory. The project scope document (Tree Obstruction Remediation.pdf) contains detailed specifications and requirements.
