About this opportunity
The San Diego Convention Center is seeking proposals for complete replacement of the original 1989 roof system on the West Building, with proposals due November 4, 2026. The facility must remain fully operational during all design and construction phases to accommodate year-round conventions, exhibitions, public events, trade shows, move-in/move-out activities, food service, security, and loading operations.
The existing roof has exceeded its useful life and experiences recurring leaks causing operational disruptions and asset damage. The new roofing system will restore waterproofing integrity and protect interior event spaces and mechanical areas from future water intrusion. Because the San Diego Convention Center hosts high-profile events including Comic-Con, phasing, temporary protection, weather protection, noise and odor control, public safety, logistics coordination, and strict alignment with the Owner's event schedule are fundamental project requirements.
The source document does not specify contract value, contract term, estimated project duration, evaluation criteria, incumbent contractor, pre-bid or site-visit dates, question deadlines, set-asides or preference programs, required qualifications or certifications, or detailed technical specifications for the new roofing system.
Opportunity text
The San Diego Convention Center West Roof Replacement project will replace the original 1989 roof system on the San Diego Convention Centers (SDCC) West Building. The SDCC structure hosts year-round high-profile conventions, exhibitions, and public events, and construction must be phased in a way to maintain operations for, including, but not limited to conventions (e.g. Comic-Con), trade shows, public events, move-in/move-out activities, food service, security, loading, and other functions. This project is a critical priority to preventing water intrusion that risks SDCC operations and major events. Because the facility will remain operational during design and construction, phasing, temporary protection, weather protection, noise and odor control, public safety, logistics, and coordination with the Owner's event schedule are fundamental Project requirements. The existing roof has exceeded its useful life and continues to experience recurring leaks that cause operational disruptions and asset damage. The new roofing system will restore waterproofing integrity and protect interior event activity and mechanical areas from future water intrusions.
