About this opportunity

The Minnesota Department of Health is soliciting food animal Salmonella isolates for whole genome sequencing and antimicrobial susceptibility testing, with proposals due July 29, 2026. The issuing body has declared this a sole-source procurement, citing the Veterinary Diagnostic Laboratory (VDL) as the only source capable of providing the isolates needed to compare against human Salmonella isolates already sequenced.

The scope requires Salmonella isolates from food animals suitable for WGS analysis and subsequent antimicrobial susceptibility testing as part of a comparative epidemiological study. The full procurement description is available through the State of Minnesota Supplier Portal; the Event ID/Reference Number was not provided in this posting.

Opportunity text

In order to conduct our study, we must have food animal Salmonella isolates to run whole genome sequencing (WGS) on so we can compare them to human Salmonella isolates that have also had WGS run on them. We will also perform antimicrobial susceptibility testing on these isolates. This is a very particular purchase we need to make and since the VDL are close partners of MDH we know they are the sole source for these isolates. \[Partial description.
