About this opportunity
The University of Washington is soliciting Statements of Qualifications from architectural firms to serve as lead design and integration consultant for the South & West Campus Expansion Phase 1 Project, with SOQs due September 25, 2026 at 3:00 PM Pacific Time. A project information meeting is scheduled for August 14, 2026 from 1:00 PM to 2:00 PM Pacific.
The scope encompasses predesign and concept-design services including revalidation of hospital clinical programming for 300–400 inpatient beds with corresponding operating rooms, emergency departments, and diagnostic-and-treatment facilities; needs-based programming for displaced academic, research, and administrative units currently occupying approximately 560,000–880,000 square feet; site and massing studies across multiple campus expansion variants; and integration of structural, civil, MEP, and parking consultants into a coordinated concept package. The selected consultant will produce decision-support documentation sufficient to support capital planning, future procurement, and implementation decisions.
Respondents must satisfy ten minimum pass-fail qualifications: licensure to practice architecture in Washington State; minimum fifteen years of professional architectural practice on complex institutional or healthcare projects; demonstrated acute-care hospital design experience; experience delivering projects on active hospital campuses while maintaining clinical services; experience with large research universities or academic medical centers; capability in needs-based programming; documented experience with large-scale decanting and phased occupancy; research and laboratory planning experience; demonstrated multidisciplinary integration capability; and ability to produce pricing-grade documentation.
The engagement spans approximately ten months following selection. Compensation is to be negotiated in accordance with Chapter 39.80 RCW, with total fee established in the executed Professional Services Agreement. The University has established aspirational goals for Business Equity Enterprise participation and requires compliance tracking through the Access Equity system for subconsultant payment reporting. The selected consultant may participate in future phases provided such participation complies with applicable law and UW policy. Shortlist notification is anticipated for the week of October 5, 2026; interviews for late October 2026; and highest-ranked firm notification for the end of October 2026.
