About this opportunity

The Town of Christiansburg, Virginia is soliciting proposals for on-call traffic and transportation engineering services under RFP 26500029, with proposals due August 12, 2026 at 3:00 p.m. at Town Hall. The Town encourages participation by small, women-, minority-, and service-disabled veteran-owned businesses but does not impose formal set-asides or preferences.

The scope encompasses transportation planning, design, and engineering support including traffic impact analyses, roadway design, traffic signal optimization, bridge inspections, environmental permitting, and construction administration. All work must be performed by Virginia-licensed professional engineers and will be authorized through individual task orders against the master contract. The Town reserves the right to award contracts to multiple firms to ensure adequate capacity and service coverage, with task order distribution based on expertise, past performance, ranking, availability, and workload.

The estimated budget is not to exceed $2.5 million per contract term, with individual projects limited to $500,000 maximum. Task orders less than $25,000 are authorized by the Department Head; those between $25,000 and $100,000 require Town Manager approval; and those exceeding $100,000 require Town Council approval. Pricing will be negotiated subsequent to selection; the RFP does not request cost estimates during the proposal phase. The initial contract term is one year with the option to renew for up to three additional one-year terms at the Town's discretion.

Required insurance includes Commercial General Liability ($1 million per occurrence / $2 million aggregate), Professional Liability ($1 million per claim / $2 million aggregate), Automobile Liability ($1 million combined single limit), and Umbrella Liability ($2 million per occurrence).

Written questions are due July 24, 2026 at 5:00 p.m. Proposal evaluation occurs August 17–21, 2026, with interviews potentially scheduled August 31–September 9, 2026. The Town intends to issue a Notice of Intent to Award on September 22, 2026, with anticipated contract execution on September 23, 2026.
