About this opportunity

The New York State Office of Parks, Recreation and Historic Preservation (OPRHP) is soliciting bids for removal of approximately 2,100 cut and piled trees spanning 28 acres at Napeague State Park in Amagansett, Long Island, with bids due September 1, 2026 at 3:00 PM ET. Attendance at a mandatory pre-bid site visit on August 12, 2026 at 11:00 AM ET is required for bid eligibility. MBE and WBE participation goals of 15 percent each apply.

Trees have been felled and cut into 1–7-foot sections forming piles typically measuring 6 feet by 6 feet. Contractors may chip material before removal or transport piles whole offsite using excavators, loaders, or tracked vehicles. Wheeled vehicles are prohibited; tracked equipment is required to minimize soil compaction and rutting. Large machinery such as tub grinders are restricted to two designated staging areas totaling 2.5 acres. No grading, bulldozers, or soil stabilizers are permitted outside designated roads and staging areas. The work qualifies as a public work under New York Labor Law Article 8, requiring contractor registration with the Bureau of Public Work and Prevailing Wage Enforcement and prevailing wage compliance.

To qualify as responsive, bidders must provide three satisfactory client references for similar work within the past five years and proof of Department of Labor Contractor Registry enrollment. Commercial General Liability insurance with minimum limits of $1 million per occurrence and $2 million aggregate is mandatory, along with Comprehensive Business Automobile Liability of $1 million per accident, Fire Insurance of $500,000, and Workers' Compensation and Disability Benefits Insurance.

Questions are due August 18, 2026 at 3:00 PM ET with responses provided approximately August 25, 2026. Contract performance runs January 15, 2027 through May 15, 2027. Award is contingent on approval by the New York State Attorney General and the Office of the State Comptroller. The anticipated award date is approximately September 8, 2026. Award will be made to the lowest-priced responsive, responsible, and qualified bidder.
