About this opportunity
City of Redondo Beach Public Works Department is requesting proposals for the Pallet Shelter Expansion Project (Job No. 2200/2201), with electronic bids due October 29, 2026 at 10:00 a.m. through the City's OpenGov procurement portal. All contractors and subcontractors must hold an active Class "A" contractor license — the central eligibility filter. The work is subject to California Labor Code Section 1770 prevailing wage requirements, with rates set by the Department of Industrial Relations.
The scope encompasses soil excavation and fill, gravel surface construction, sidewalk and curb construction, retaining walls, sewer and water installations, fencing, guardrails, handrails, modular units, and electrical and lighting improvements per the Plans and Specifications. Contractors must demonstrate a minimum of five years of applicable experience and provide evidence of five recently completed similar public works projects. The contract must be completed and the facility made ready for service within 50 working days after Notice to Proceed is issued.
The estimated project cost is $675,000. Award will be made to the lowest responsible bidder meeting all specified requirements. A bid bond equal to not less than 10% of the total bid amount is required, with the original physical bond due by close of business on the third day after bid opening. Upon contract award, contractors must furnish a faithful performance bond, labor and material bond, and maintenance bond. Five percent of all payments will be withheld as retention for performance security, though contractors may substitute securities in lieu of retention. Liquidated damages are assessed at $1,000 per day from the required completion date until actual completion.
Questions must be submitted in writing at least ten working days prior to bid opening. No pre-bid job walk is scheduled. Work on Saturdays or after hours requires prior City Engineer consent and is subject to overtime construction inspection costs; work on Sundays or City holidays is generally prohibited.
