About this opportunity

The Ohio Fire Academy is soliciting a contractor to perform advanced cleaning, advanced inspections, and approved repairs on 120 sets of structural firefighter turnout gear (coats and pants) under NFPA 1851-2020 standards, with a contract period from July 1, 2026 through June 30, 2027 and proposals due August 31, 2026.

The vendor must be authorized and verified to perform repairs on the outer shell, thermal liner, and moisture barrier across all manufacturers of structural turnout gear, complying with NFPA 1851-2020 and applicable manufacturer specifications. All repair materials — Velcro, thread, patch material, closures, and accessories — must meet both NFPA 1851-2020 standards and manufacturer specifications. This authorization and material-compliance requirement is the central capability filter for qualification.

The Ohio Fire Academy maintains these 120 sets for firefighter instructors deployed across Ohio. The Academy is implementing a comprehensive NFPA-compliant program designed to enhance instructor and firefighter health and safety, lead implementation efforts statewide, reduce asset management costs, and improve turnout gear lifecycle. The contract supports this incremental rollout toward full NFPA 1851 compliance by January 1, 2026 — a date that appears to predate the posted date and may reflect a compliance target for the broader Academy program.

No estimated contract value, incumbent contractor, evaluation criteria, pre-bid meeting, or question deadline is identified in the source.
