About this opportunity
Appalachian State University is requesting qualifications for a Design-Build flood mitigation project in the Peacock and Duncan Hall district on its Boone, North Carolina campus, with qualifications due June 23, 2026 at 3:00 p.m. All responding firms must hold proper North Carolina licenses for general contracting, electrical contracting, plumbing, heating, fire sprinkler contracting, landscape contracting, architecture, engineering, or landscape architecture.
The scope includes new ditch work, minor retaining walls, minor retention areas, and fine grading coordinated with but separate from the ongoing Duncan and Peacock Capital Projects. The total project budget is $499,000, funded through SCIF R&R Funds, with project delivery scheduled for August 2026.
Evaluation criteria are weighted equally at 10 percent each across ten categories: firm profile and key personnel qualifications, relevant project experience, design-build delivery experience, cost estimating and scheduling track records, geographic proximity and familiarity with the area, current workload and available resources, project delivery processes, team selection documentation with licensed contractors and design professionals, and certifications including surety bonding and HUB participation plans. Qualifications-based selection (QBS) documentation is required for design professionals. Interviews will be conducted only if deemed necessary by the university.
Interested firms may schedule a site walk by contacting Project Manager Warren Huntsman at 828-262-8770 or huntsmanwh@appstate.edu. Qualifications must be submitted electronically to that email address, with one copy of the qualifications information package required.
