About this opportunity
The University of Connecticut is seeking experienced architectural design firms to provide comprehensive services for a new Commissary Building project located at W-Lot on the Storrs Campus in Tolland County. This Request for Qualifications (RFQ) solicitation, numbered 300172, is specifically targeting architectural firms capable of delivering full programming, planning, design, and engineering services for a 28,800 gross square foot facility. The project aims to replace an existing commissary with a modern building featuring multiple program elements including a central kitchen, bulk freezers, refrigeration, dry storage, loading docks, shipping/receiving areas, a Husky Harvest Food Pantry, coffee production space, test kitchen, bakery sales area, dish room, offices, conference room, laundry, and various support spaces. The solicitation is open from March 28, 2025, to April 29, 2025, with a vendor Q&A period running from March 28, 2025, to April 15, 2025. Interested firms must submit qualifications directly to Griffin Fehrs, the primary contact, who can be reached at griffin.fehrs@uconn.edu or by telephone at (860) 486-2618.
The RFQ documentation does not specify explicit set-aside designations, disadvantaged enterprise requirements, or incumbent vendor information. No specific budget range or estimated total project value was disclosed in the available documentation. The procurement appears to be a standard architectural services solicitation focused on replacing an existing campus food service facility with a comprehensive, modern commissary building. While specific evaluation criteria were not detailed in the summary, typical architectural services procurements often assess firms based on prior experience, technical approach, key personnel qualifications, and demonstrated capacity to complete complex institutional infrastructure projects. The project's location at 3 Discovery Dr, Storrs, CT 06269, suggests this is a campus-specific infrastructure improvement initiative. Prospective respondents should carefully review the full solicitation document to understand the complete scope of requirements and potential submission expectations.
