About this opportunity

The City of Denton is requesting proposals for public art design, creation, and installation at the Linda McNatt Animal Shelter Expansion, with proposals due September 9, 2026 at 2:00 p.m. CT and a question deadline of August 31, 2026 at 5:00 p.m. CT. The budget is fixed at $200,000 to $250,000 with no escalation, and all costs—materials, engineering, research, fabrication, site installation modifications, and artist fees—must be included within this envelope.

Respondents must be individual artists or artist teams with three years of demonstrated experience in sculptural and commissioned artwork at comparable scales. Submissions must include artist resumes, at least ten images of completed projects, schematic diagrams, artist statements, design renderings, detailed budgets by cost category, maintenance and conservation plans, and project timelines. Proposals containing advertising, soliciting, or commercial content are ineligible.

The Public Art Committee will evaluate submissions based on artistic merit and ability to complete the project. The City will collaborate with the selected artist on site preparation and may negotiate additional considerations such as integrated lighting as part of final contract negotiations. The contract commences upon issuance of a Notice to Proceed and automatically expires upon completion of work and City acceptance. Payment will be made at project milestones following City review and approval. The City of Denton qualifies for sales tax exemption and will provide exemption certificates to the contractor. Proposals must be submitted electronically via IONWAVE or email.
