About this opportunity
The California Science Center, a California state agency, is requesting bids for monthly preventive maintenance, fire testing, and emergency callback repair services on ten pieces of equipment — three escalators, six passenger or freight elevators, and one wheelchair lift — across the California Science Center in Los Angeles and an affiliated LAUSD school facility, with bids due October 28, 2026 and a mandatory pre-bid conference and walkthrough on October 20. A 5% Small Business or Microbusiness preference and a Disabled Veteran Business Enterprise incentive of 1–5% based on participation percentage apply.
The contractor must hold a valid California C-11 Elevator Contractor License and provide at least five years of experience in similar services, supported by two professional references. All replacement personnel must be approved by the state and possess appropriate factory training or three years of recent field experience with the specified equipment. Services include monthly preventive maintenance, fire testing, and emergency callback repair with rates fixed for the contract term and billed monthly in arrears. Service calls are invoiced at differentiated emergency hourly rates for regular time (Monday–Friday, 6:00 a.m. to 5:30 p.m.) and premium time (Monday–Friday, 5:30 p.m. to 6:00 a.m., and all day Saturday and Sunday), calculated in fifteen-minute increments.
The contract runs from December 1, 2026 through November 30, 2031, with two additional one-year renewal options at the state's discretion. The contractor must submit proof of adequate general liability and worker's compensation insurance, complete the Payee Data Record (Std. 204), provide a California Seller's Permit or exemption certification, and comply with prevailing wage requirements under Labor Code Section 1773.2. Pricing is based on the cost sheet in Attachment 3. Written questions are due October 21, 2026 at 12:00 p.m., with responses released by October 23. The Notice of Intent to Award will be released by October 30, 2026, with a proposed award date of November 9, 2026.
