About this opportunity
The City of Austin is requesting bids for design and construction of an Ammonia Removal Facility and drainage improvements at the Hornsby Bend Biosolids Management Plant, with bids due August 6, 2026.
The scope encompasses a new on-site Ammonia Removal Facility to treat high-strength ammonia and nitrogen in the side stream from the Dewatering Facility, projected to reduce ammonia load by 80 to 90 percent and meet environmental regulatory requirements. The project also includes improvements to existing drainage and stormwater management systems to provide positive drainage infrastructure for the facility. CIP 3164.125 (Ammonia Removal Facility) and CIP 3164.094 (drainage improvements) are being permitted and bid as a single project. Place of performance is the Hornsby Bend Biosolids Management Plant in Austin, Texas.
Opportunity text
The anaerobic digestion process to treat wastewater sludge produces a side stream with high ammonia and nitrogen concentrations. This side stream flow is from the Dewatering Facility which currently discharges directly to the on-site pond system. To treat this high strength ammonia and to meet environmental regulatory requirements a new on-site Ammonia Removal Facility is required. It is projected that this facility will significantly reduce the high ammonia load by 80 to 90%. Improve existing drainage and storm water management systems at Hornsby Bend Biosolids Management Plant. These drainage improvements are required to provide positive drainage for the proposed (future) Ammonia Removal Facility (3164.125). CIP 3164.125 and 3164.094 are being permitted and bid together as one project.
