About this opportunity
The City of Coronado is soliciting bids for street furnishings replacement and tree work along Orange Avenue sidewalks in downtown Coronado under Contract 27-CO-EN-1206, with proposals due November 12, 2026 at 2:00 p.m. via PlanetBids, and a non-mandatory pre-bid conference scheduled for October 21, 2026 at 10:00 a.m. at Coronado City Hall. Bidders must hold a current California Class A Contractor License at award and be registered with the California Department of Industrial Relations per Labor Code Section 1771.1(a).
The scope encompasses street furnishings replacement and addition along Orange Avenue sidewalks on both sides between First Avenue and R.H. Dana Place (excluding the 800 block), including tree removal and replacement, tree grate refurbishment and replacement, new trash and recycling receptacles, benches, bike racks, isolated sidewalk replacement, and news rack repainting. The City will purchase certain items (new benches, trash and recycling receptacles) and store them with the supplier pending delivery in up to seven separate loads. A majority of the project is located within Caltrans Right of Way, requiring an encroachment permit expected prior to construction. The project documents reference the 2024 Edition Greenbook, 2025 Edition Caltrans Standard Specifications, 2022 Edition San Diego Regional Standard Drawings, and Coronado Annotations. The contract time is eighty working days, with liquidated damages of $1,500.00 per calendar day for failure to complete on time.
The engineering estimate is $1,252,500. Bid security of ten percent of the lump-sum base bid is required as a bid bond. The contractor must provide Performance and Payment Bonds each at one hundred percent of the contract price. Prevailing wage rates apply to all work. Five percent retention will be deducted from each progress payment. Contract awards will be made to the lowest responsible bidder within sixty days after bid opening.
Questions must be submitted electronically by October 28, 2026, with responses posted by November 4, 2026.
