About this opportunity
The City of Meriden is soliciting bids to decommission, remove, and replace the existing boiler system at the Augusta Curtis Cultural Center, with bids due October 14, 2026, and a pre-bid meeting on September 23 at 10:00 a.m. at the project site. A local preference provision allows Meriden-based businesses (principal place of business within city boundaries) with bids not more than 10% higher than the lowest bid to accept the award at the low bid amount.
The scope includes mechanical and electrical demolition, removal and replacement of existing boilers, pipe insulation, coordination with building occupants to minimize disruption, temporary work to maintain building operations during construction, utility protection and location verification, and compliance with prevailing wage requirements. The project is located at 175 East Main Street, Meriden, Connecticut. Site examination prior to submission is required. The contract will be awarded on a lump-sum basis.
Connecticut prevailing wage rates apply; the contractor is responsible for verifying the most current rates in effect up to ten days before bid opening. The City of Meriden is exempt from federal excise taxes and Connecticut sales and use taxes, which shall not be included in bid pricing. Liquidated damages are assessed at $500 per day for delays in substantial completion and again at $500 per day for any failure to complete remaining work after substantial completion.
Bids must be submitted electronically via the City's eProcurement Portal by 11:00 a.m. on October 14. Each bid must be accompanied by a bid bond equal to 10% of the bid amount, a notarized Non-Collusive Bid Statement, a Bidder's Qualification Statement, and a Form of Surety Guaranty. The selected contractor must provide 100% Performance and Labor and Material Payment Bonds from an approved corporate surety. No bidder may withdraw its bid within 90 days of opening. Questions are due October 7 at 4:00 p.m.
