About this opportunity

Berrien Springs Public Schools is seeking sealed bids for the Central Office Tech Department Renovation project, a construction procurement requiring comprehensive interior renovation services. The project encompasses approximately 2,180 square feet of interior space within the existing central office building located at 285 Sylvester Avenue in Berrien Springs, Michigan. The scope of work includes interior demolition, creation of new office spaces for the Technology Department with two new offices and three workstations, establishment of a dedicated workspace for upgrading student devices, renovation of the break room and copy area, creation of four new workstations for the Finance Department through demolition of a restroom and storage room, and all associated plumbing, mechanical, and electrical system modifications. The renovation must comply with the 2021 Michigan Building Code, International Plumbing Code, Mechanical Code, 2023 National Electric Code, Michigan Commercial Energy Code, and Michigan Accessibility Code standards. Bidders must attend a mandatory pre-bid meeting scheduled for Tuesday, March 31, 2026 at 3:00 PM at the Central Office, J8 entrance, and submit sealed bids by 3:00 PM on Tuesday, April 7, 2026 at the district's Administrative Offices located at the corner of Shawnee and Sylvester Avenue. Bids will be publicly opened and read aloud immediately following the submission deadline. Bidding documents are available electronically at no charge via email request to CARMI Design Group at cadmin@carmi.biz, with hard copies available at various plan rooms beginning March 23, 2026. Bidders must submit a five percent bid bond with their proposal, comparable project experience from the last five years, a list of proposed subcontractors, and a construction schedule.

All bidders must comply with Michigan Public Act 517 of 2012 (Iran Economic Sanctions Act) and certify they are not engaged in investment activities in Iran's energy sector, and each bid must be accompanied by a sworn and notarized Familial Disclosure Statement disclosing any family relationships between the bidder's owner or employees and members of the Berrien Springs Public Schools Board of Education or superintendent. The successful contractor will be required to pay not less than the published Berrien County, Michigan prevailing wage rates and provide Performance Bonds, Labor and Material Bonds, and certificates of Liability and Worker's Compensation Insurance with minimum coverage of $1,000,000 bodily injury and personal injury per occurrence with $2,000,000 aggregate, $1,000,000 automobile liability, and $2,000,000 umbrella coverage. No bid may be withdrawn for 30 calendar days following the bid opening date of April 7, 2026, and work is anticipated to commence upon the Notice to Proceed letter issued after the April 16, 2026 Board of Education meeting. The project manual and construction drawings serve as the primary evaluation criteria, with the owner reserving the right to reject any or all bids and accept the bid deemed most advantageous to the public interest. The bidding documents do not specify an estimated project budget or award value; however, detailed construction specifications and architectural plans provide comprehensive scope definition for cost estimation purposes.
