About this opportunity
Wake County, North Carolina is requesting qualifications from architectural and engineering firms to provide design services for multiple county building renovation projects under RFQ #26-065, with proposals due July 21, 2026 at noon. The County anticipates awarding two to four design consultant team contracts.
Project scope spans renovation work at the Waverly F. Akins Wake County Office Building, Justice Center, Public Safety Center, and various Public Safety, Human Services, Library, Parks, and historic buildings. Construction costs per project range from $100,000 to $8 million. Project schedules are anticipated to range from approximately 10 to 18+ months depending on project complexity. The scope will vary in type and scale, ranging from work requiring informal bids (construction cost less than $500,000) to formal range bidding (construction cost exceeding $500,000).
Compensation is negotiated individually for each contract, with initial compensation potentially covering only Programming and Schematic Design Phase services, and post-Schematic Design work negotiated as a lump sum per project. Firms must submit hourly billing rate schedules for all personnel.
Evaluation criteria include specialized expertise, staff qualifications, past performance on similar renovation projects, design approach, quality control capabilities, current workload and staff availability, project completion record, building systems design experience, hourly rates, proposal format compliance, proximity to Wake County, and other relevant factors. Proposal packages must not exceed 20 pages single-sided or 10 pages double-sided, submitted in five complete printed copies with accompanying digital PDF files on thumb drives.
Written questions are due June 30, 2026, with County responses by July 6, 2026. The Selection Committee will convene during the week of August 3–6, 2026 to identify shortlisted firms, followed by interviews scheduled for August 12–13, 2026, and firm selection notifications by August 21, 2026.
