About this opportunity
The Department of Agriculture National Institute of Food and Agriculture (NIFA) is soliciting applications for the Tribal Colleges Education Equity Grants Program (CFDA 10.221) with an application due date of October 7, 2026. Only 1994 Land-Grant Institutions designated as Tribal Colleges or Universities are eligible to apply; the source lists thirty-six eligible institutions by name, and applicants must be accredited or demonstrating progress toward accreditation by the application deadline. Award recipients may subcontract to organizations not eligible to apply provided such organizations are necessary for project conduct.
The program funds four-year continuation awards to build tribal education capacity in food and agricultural sciences for Native Alaskan and American Indian students. Six legislatively mandated priority areas guide proposal development: curricula design and materials development, faculty development and teacher preparation, student experiential learning, equipment and instrumentation for teaching science, technology, engineering, arts and mathematics, student recruitment and retention, and instruction delivery systems and strategic partnerships. All teaching applications must demonstrably incorporate a tribal leadership development component that equips students with technical and leadership abilities upon graduation, including activities such as developing practical applications for understanding tribal leadership roles, connecting academic classroom experience with students' identities and backgrounds, mentoring and shadowing opportunities, and leadership academies or workshops.
Project periods, including no-cost extensions, do not exceed five years. NIFA employs a two-stage evaluation process: administrative review for compliance with NOFO requirements, followed by peer review of meritorious applications to assess scientific and technical merit. Applicants must complete SAM.gov and Grants.gov registration prior to submission.
