About this opportunity
The U.S. Center for SafeSport, under the Department of Justice's Office of Justice Programs, is seeking a grantee to continue the Keep Young Athletes Safe (KYAS) program aimed at preventing sexual, physical, and emotional abuse in amateur athletic programs. The primary objectives include developing educational materials, training programs, and policies to protect young athletes participating in United States Olympic and Paralympic Committee (USOPC) and national governing body (NGB) athletic programs. Key contract requirements involve creating comprehensive abuse prevention strategies, implementing background screening policies for coaches and volunteers, and establishing robust reporting mechanisms for abuse allegations. Evaluation criteria will likely focus on the applicant's ability to design effective prevention tools, conduct regular audits, and ensure compliance with state and federal reporting requirements. The grant opportunity is posted on November 21, 2025, with a critical application deadline of November 24, 2025.
Recent federal grant awards for this program have ranged from approximately $2.2 million to $6.8 million, with typical project durations of 36 to 48 months. The grant will cover nationwide performance, targeting athlete protection across various sports organizations. Successful applicants must be registered in SAM.gov and submit applications through Grants.gov and JustGrants, with final award determinations made within 180 days but no later than September 30 of the current fiscal year. The program specifically seeks 501(c)(3) nonprofits and other eligible entities capable of implementing comprehensive athlete protection protocols. Payments and transactions will be subject to potential audits by government and independent accounting entities.
Synopsis
With this funding opportunity, the U.S Center for SafeSport (SafeSport) will continue to design and implement a program that aims to safeguard amateur athletes through the prevention of sexual, physical and emotional abuse in the athletic programs of the United States Olympic and Paralympic Committee (USOPC) and national governing bodies (NGB). Under the Keep Young Athletes Safe (KYAS) program, the grantee will design and implement measures to protect young athletes through the development of educational materials, training programs and policies, and necessary tools to help prevent and address identified abuse. Additionally, SafeSport will continue to develop background screening policies for new and existing USOPC and NGB organizational staff, including coaches, instructors and volunteers, and oversee regular and random audits to ensure that, once implemented, the policies and procedures to prevent and identify amateur athlete abuse are followed correctly. The KYAS program requires reporting of any allegations of sexual and physical abuse, following applicable state and federal reporting requirements.
