About this opportunity

The Department of Agriculture Agricultural Marketing Service is soliciting applications for the Sheep Production and Marketing Grant Program (CFDA 10.173) to support projects that strengthen production and marketing of sheep and sheep products across the United States, with applications due October 2, 2026 at 11:59 p.m. Eastern Time via Grants.gov. Approximately $2.4 million is available in a single award ranging from $1,000,000 to $2,400,000.

Eligible applicants are domestic national entities—nonprofits, higher education institutions, government entities, or business entities—with demonstrated expertise in sheep production or marketing and demonstrated capacity to implement and manage a competitive subaward program. All applicants must be owned, operated, and located within the 50 United States, the District of Columbia, the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, the United States Virgin Islands, Guam, American Samoa, and the Commonwealth of the Northern Mariana Islands, or be Tribal Governments.

The primary recipient has no cost-share requirement for administrative functions; however, all subaward recipients must provide 25 percent cost sharing (cash or in-kind). Recipients must allocate at least 80 percent of award funds to subawards benefiting sheep producers, with individual subaward amounts ranging from $25,000 to $150,000 over 24 months. Up to 20 percent of total federal funds may be used for administrative costs.

The performance period is 36 months, beginning September 30, 2026 and ending September 29, 2029. Eligible activities include production capacity development, marketing and market development, technical assistance and training, innovation and product development, animal health and risk management, and infrastructure and supply chain strengthening.

Applications are scored on alignment and intent (30 points), technical merit and expertise (40 points), and fiscal plan and performance accountability (30 points). Applications must include SF-424 and SF-424A forms, a project narrative (maximum 15 pages of applicant-added content), letters of commitment from partners, and NICRA if applicable.
