About this opportunity
The National Science Foundation is soliciting applications for the Security and Preparedness (SAP) Program to fund basic scientific research advancing knowledge of global and national security issues, with applications due October 15, 2076. Applicants are unrestricted by institutional type. The program does not fund applied research.
Research must demonstrate intellectual merit and broader impacts, with projects expected to be theoretically motivated, conceptually precise, methodologically rigorous, and empirically oriented. Substantive areas include international relations, global and national security, human security, political violence, state stability, conflict processes, regime transition, international and comparative political economy, and peace science. The program supports research experiences for undergraduate students and infrastructural activities, including methodological innovations.
The SAP Program operates under Assistance Listing 47.075 (Social, Behavioral, and Economic Sciences). NSF recommends applicants examine related program offerings: Accountable Institutions and Behavior (AIB), Law and Science (LS), and Research Infrastructure in the Social and Behavioral Sciences (RISBS).
Applications require submission through Grants.gov with Research.gov validation. Mandatory components include the SF 424 (R&R) form, project narrative (maximum 15 pages), budget justification (maximum five pages), data management and sharing plan (maximum two pages), biographical sketches via SciENcv for all principal investigators and senior key personnel, current and pending support documentation, and mentoring plans where applicable. All attachments must be in PDF format with embedded fonts. NSF recommends submission at least five business days before the deadline, as Grants.gov tracking number receipt does not guarantee NSF acceptance.
