About this opportunity

The National Science Foundation is soliciting applications for the Methodology, Measurement, and Statistics (MMS) Program with a due date of January 28, 2027.

MMS supports the development of innovative analytical and statistical methods and models for the social, behavioral, and economic sciences. The program prioritizes proposals that are methodologically innovative, grounded in theory, and have potential utility across multiple fields within these disciplines. MMS partners with a consortium of federal statistical agencies to support research that advances the production and use of official statistics.

The program offers multiple funding mechanisms: Regular Research Awards, conference and community-development activity awards, Doctoral Dissertation Research Improvement (DDRI) Grants, Research Experience for Undergraduates (REU) Supplements, and Faculty Early Career Development (CAREER) awards. For DDRI proposals, the principal investigator must be the doctoral student's advisor or another faculty member at the U.S. institution where the student is enrolled, and the co-principal investigator must be the doctoral student whose dissertation research will be supported. All other award types have no PI restrictions.

MMS operates under the Social, Behavioral, and Economic Sciences program (CFDA 47.075), housed in the NSF Directorate for Social, Behavioral, and Economic Sciences. The assistance-listing portfolio historically has been heavily weighted toward project grants, with recent project grant awards ranging from $31,170 to $913,250. Non-federal cost-share requirements are minimal across the program overall. Applications must be submitted through Grants.gov in compliance with NSF application formatting requirements and the current NSF Grants.gov Application Guide.
