About this opportunity

The Department of State US Embassy Canberra is soliciting applications for the Austrian-American Partnership Fund (AAPF), a grant program funding collaborative projects between Austria and the United States, with applications accepted on a rolling basis subject to the availability of Public Diplomacy funds for Fiscal Year 2026.

Eligible applicants are not-for-profit organizations (including think tanks and civil society/non-governmental organizations), public and private educational institutions, and individuals. The Public Diplomacy Section encourages applications from Austria-based, European, or U.S.-based organizations and individuals with proven program execution experience.

Priority funding areas include promoting understanding of U.S. global foreign policy and economic priorities among Austrian publics, particularly young people; strengthening U.S.-Austria efforts to combat shared transnational threats such as terrorism, illegal migration, antisemitism, and drug trafficking; enhancing understanding of the United States, U.S.-Austrian shared history, and American arts, film, sports, and music, particularly among youth and in connection with America's 250th anniversary in 2026; and highlighting American technological and scientific innovation and economic dynamism while creating U.S.-Austria collaboration opportunities in these fields. Proposals demonstrating long-term project sustainability will receive priority consideration. The selection process typically requires two to three months.

The program operates under CFDA 19.040 (Public Diplomacy Programs) administered by the Department of State Bureau of Public Affairs. Recent Public Diplomacy grants range from under $1,000 to approximately $500,000, with smaller grants ($2,000–$50,000) dominating recent activity.
